 2009-2010 Annual Reports

 2010 Pastor’s Report

This past year has been the most encouraging year I believe our church has had in a decade.

The year started rough and there were several opportunities for growth or division that presented themselves. The church chose growth. I am deeply indebted to Stan Rhodes for his leadership.

We have begun new ministries in several different fields.

Andrew and Audrey Schwartz have been a wonderful addition to our church family and our young adult ministry is the fastest growing section of our church. We will miss them as they leave this summer so Andrew can continue his education. Most people only have to go to school 12 years. Andrew has finished over 18 years and it still isn’t enough. May God’s blessings abound as they choose the Doctorate program he will be enrolled in. Pray that the Lord will direct the right people to take over this thriving ministry in our church.

Our church’s ministry to Hope’s Door is expanding. Thank you to Pat Mee and Zane Schwartz in getting this ball rolling. Jennifer Condel and Shanti Peterson are heading up a group of ladies to organize the donations to Hope’s Door. I look forward to what may lie in store for Ustick Road in connection with this ministry to families ravished by domestic violence.

The teens have led the way in compassionate ministry as they have started to go to World Harvest on the third Saturday of each month to organize and distribute food boxes. This is a wonderful ministry I would encourage everyone to participate in at least once. Like every ministry we get involved in, it is impossible to say where this could lead to.

Our youth group is joining Canyon Hill for united Wednesday night youth services. The possibility to ally with other Nazarene churches in deed, not just in word, is exciting.

Our teen and children’s quizzing programs were stellar. Thank you to Erin Schwartz, Amanda Nelson and Becky Mee for their leadership in these ministries.

Thank you to Len Abbott for all of his continuous work at the church. Our church is indebted to this man for the many hours of work he has put into maintaining our church building.

Thank you as well to Zane Schwartz for his leadership in the area of Socials and Outreach. Our church has had a vast number of activities requiring continuous input and leadership.

Our missionary counsel, headed by Brian Sluder, hosted a number of missionaries. This summer our church will have the privilege of sending out at least 3 missionaries (Katie, Brianna and Megan) and we participated effectively in several volunteer offerings. Thank you.

The church board this year has just done a great job of following Jesus’ example of servant leadership as illustrated in Phillipians 2 in submission to the Holy Spirit.

Our greatest struggle still remains the area of responsibility and accountability. I believe this is a societal problem that is penetrating the walls of the church. Volunteers that can be depended upon and have a passionate concern for the Gospel are a priceless and diminishing commodity. The world pits our schedules against one another and more and more often the church is losing.

Our financial giving diminished by roughly 25 % this last year. However, in spite of the dip in our giving, our bank account dwindled by only $1,000 while we paid off over $9,000 on our property indebtedness. At our current rate, our property will be debt free in four years. It is also worth noting that all of our budgets were paid in full and we were a 10% giving church, which means we gave away at least 10% of our income for the work of the kingdom outside of our local church body. So, in spite of faltering in our giving, our finances have remained strong. The only difficulty that this shortfall presents is in the area of progress. We can maintain status quo, but advances in programs or new staff are quite difficult.

It is my sincerest hope that this year will be committed to engaging every willing person in attendance at our church in a ministry that allows them to cultivate their own spiritual journey while aiding in the spreading of the Gospel. It is my prayer that every Christian would see themselves as a missionary rather than as the mission field. Acts 1:8 says that we will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon us and we will be Christ’s witnesses in Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria and to the ends of the Earth. It is my desire that every Christian is actively engaged in exercising that power.

Thank you to all of the people in our church who are actively involved in serving God through service to others.

Thank you for the opportunity to serve God as your pastor again this year. Thank you for your love and support and shared vision that the world around us will know Jesus lives and His love is for everyone.

Respectfully submitted by the Grace of our Savior,

Pastor Brian D. Dyer

Outreach and Fellowship Annual Report 2009-2010

2009-2010 was a year of struggle and growth. The highs reward our faith and perseverance, and the lows remind us we need to continue in all things, to depend on God for strength.

April -

Men's Fellowship at the gun range - Several of our men learned that guns, doughnuts, and God can be a rewarding mix. We had an enjoyable morning munching doughnuts, shooting at pop cans and shooting the breeze.

Involvement in Nampa City League Softball - Our church fielded a motley crew of players in our annual effort to dominate the Nampa City League. We finished the season.

May -

Mother's Day Brunch - Mothers and daughters came together for a morning of friendship and learning.

Membership - (4) people completed membership class - We welcomed into membership Brian and Gretchen Perkins, Tami Heck, and Steve Winters.

June -

Work day at Hope's Door - URCN teamed up with Hope Lutheran from Eagle to sort (and sometimes wear) donations to the Hope's Door thrift store.

As we sought guidance and direction for possible revival services, each Sunday night, we "took it to the streets". Several small groups walked the nearby streets of our community, praying for the people that live next door to our church.

August -

Gospel on the Green - Each Sunday night in August, we were treated to a different performer or group. The culmination was an afternoon in Emmett with Steve's band, and the river baptism of Mikayla Turner.

September -

The Warren Corn Feed - The whole church crew converged on the Warren home for an afternoon of food, playing on the trampoline, and fellowship. Thank you to Pat and John for opening up your industrial sized kitchen.

Dan and Christina Benedict 's going away luncheon - We bid farewell and good luck to another set of URCN missionaries, as Dan, Kristina, Caleb, and Jael, departed for Argentina.

October -

Harvest Party - Our extended church family got together at Cara and Steve's house for a day of hay rides, horse demonstrations, flag football, and country cooking. Thank you Steve and Cara for allowing so many kids to sit on your donkey.

In October we also began a trial run with "Feet to Faith" Sunday evening services. The hope was that we would seek out opportunities to actively minister to our community.  Some of the highlights were: Creating care packages and writing thank-you letters to deployed service men, Star of Bethlehem presentation, Missions presentation, and the Walk for Life fund raiser.

November -

Thanksgiving meal - What is better than Thanksgiving with your family? The answer is Thanksgiving with your church family. Ustick celebrated the holiday with plenty of turkey and pie for everyone in attendance.

December -

Christmas Caroling - Two groups of hearty carolers braved the cold and diesel fumes to visit several families from our congregation and community. Hot chocolate and chili was a welcome top off to the frosty evening.

New Years Eve Party - Marbles and cookies. Is there any other way to welcome in a new year?

January -

Website - The church website got a refreshed look. It is now something that all attendees can look to for the latest information, as well as another way we can reach out to our community in this increasingly technological society.

http://www.usticknaz.org/

Face book - The church started a Face book group, "Friends of URCN". You can get up to the minute updates on the latest 'goings on' with the local and extended URCN family.

February -

Father / Daughter Breakfast - Roughly nine young ladies and their fathers participated in building strong relationships while several young college and women from the church spoke.

March -

"Sunday Afternoons at Ustick" - Several families got together for a lazy afternoon of potluck and volleyball at the church. This is hopefully the start of a monthly tradition of informal family fellowship at the church.

Church Use Policy - Planning a funeral? Unexpected wedding? We now have a church use policy and application.

As I look back on 2009-2010, I want to thank the other members of my committee and the members of the church that gave their finances, time, prayer, and physical effort. It is really through you that God has richly blessed our church family.

In Christ,

2009-2010 NYI Annual Report                                                                                     March 27, 2010

Ustick Road Church of the Nazarene Congregation & Members:

This year for the NYI at Ustick Road Church has been eventful.  We have been preparing for the National Quiz Competition held at Mount Vernon Nazarene University held June 28-July 3rd.  We have added college students to our growing NYI and fulfilled a need for that specific population.  Pastor Andew and Audrey have worked diligently with the Young Adult Sunday School class to build its number and its cohesiveness.  The early youth have just begun to be grafted into the already established teen group and more are on the way.  The teens have grown together through Sunday School and Wednesday Night Youth Group.  They have also been building a bond with each other through teen quizzing and studying I & II Corinthians.  The adults who have been supporting the teens in these areas deserve a special thank you for impacting their lives and providing them a Christian model for today’s society.  Not an easy task for any one person trying to love the Lord, follow His commands, and not be unduly influenced by peers, music, media of all kinds, and then remember that 15 year olds who want to know everything are watching and critiquing your every decision.   I Timothy 4: 10, 12, & 16 say, “(and for this we labor and strive), that we have put our hope in the living God, who is the Savior of all men, and especially of those who believe. Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, and in faith and in purity.  Watch your life and doctrine closely.  Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers.  Thank you for such a supportive year as your NYI President.  I will be praying for the future leadership of our church and what this next year brings to our youth.

Listed below are some of the events the teens and young adults have participated.

                Volleyball on the green

                Teen Quiz Retreat

                Wednesday Night Youth Group

                Young Adult potlucks

                Winter Retreat

                Fundraisers of many kinds

                Main Event

Sincerely,

Erin Schwartz

NYI President

HEAD TRUSTEE YEARLY REPORT

We've been stealthily working on projects and maintenance. So while it's been a quiet year, it's also been busy year. There's been a few big projects over the last year, a few little projects, and a lot of just general upkeep.

Our parking lot got quite a facelift. We had a load of gravel brought in, and John Warren came in and spread it out level. The gravel is much nicer than the mud!

We had the hallway, fellowship hall, and Sanctuary carpets and pews cleaned, along with the hallways, Sanctuary, and fellowship hall painted by Womens Ministries. We now have new Bibles, offering plates, and additional communion serving trays. We also had speakers donated for future updates on the sound system in the Sanctuary.

We had the electrician over several times running a new outlet for the serving tray, and fixing the stove breaker and outlet. We also had the kitchen drain fixed.

The white van was wrecked and fixed, and we're very thankful there were no injuries. The east door was fixed. Nancy Dyer's classroom was remodeled, and looks very lovely (thank you Pastor Brian and Terry Nichols).

Lots of general maintenance and upkeep was done. Keeping conscientious of our budget and finances, we didn't take on much for new big projects. We focused a lot on keeping the Church in good working order.

We want to thank all the people who contributed their time and energy to helping out at the Church work days or on various projects around the Church. It was a wonderful year, with the Lord blessing our Church and our efforts abundantly. Thank you.

The Annual NMI Report to the Congregation of Ustick Road Church of the Nazarene

Sunday, March 28, 2010

World Evangelism Fund Giving

As of February 28, 2010

Easter/Thanksgiving Offering  $1,069.95

Auction for Missions                 $3,982.57

Faith Promise                             $3,585.25

Total Giving                                 $8,637.77

Our  WEF commitment as designated by the Intermountain District of the Church of the Nazarene was $9,661.00.  In spite of the $1,023.23 shortfall, we paid the WEF commitment in full, taking money from the general fund to supplement the WEF giving this year.

NMI Committee Organization

We have spent our meeting nights this year discussing organizing the committee in a way that will help monitor what is going on with the Nazarene missions program in general and present that information to our congregation in a timely manner.  We’ve also discussed formats by which we could present our information.  Our committee will be focused on these positions:  Nazarene Compassionate Ministries, LINKS secretary, Missions Education, Alabaster Offering, and Prayer and Fasting.

Activities on the Year

On July 19, 2009, Mark and Nancy Pitts shared with us their work at African Nazarene University.  We have supported them the last two years as our LINKS missionaries.

We sent the Benedicks family—Dan, Kristina, Caleb, and Jael—off with a special farewell on September 20, 2009.  They are now serving Samaritan’s Purse in Shell, Ecuador.  They continue to provide email updates and have a blog at http://www.benedicks4jesus.blogspot.com/ .

In October, we held our annual missions auction and brought just under $4,000.  We thought that was an exceptionally good amount for a year during which the local economy remained on a down note.  We were grateful to the Outreach committee for partnering with us in setting up the pre-auction meal, while our committee focused on the main auction later that night.

We had a special presentation on November 8, 2009, the International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church, using materials supplied by the Voices of Martyrs.  It was a time to remember people serving the Lord Jesus Christ throughout the world, especially those being persecuted.  We had a time of prayer for those being persecuted and remembered our own Nazarene missionaries as well.

Thank Yous to those Who Served on Committee in 2009-10

I have many thanks for Brianna Dyer, Nancy Dyer, Gretchen Perkins, Katie Schuman, and Cara Winters for their contributions to the NMI Committee during the past church year.  They made my job much easier.

Respectfully submitted,

Brian T. Sluder,

NMI President, 2009-10
